How to understand God?

“Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.” Matthew 13:11-13

Jesus is responding to His disciples concerning the question of why He speaks in parables. Jesus tells the disciples that He has given them the ability to know the mysteries of God but the crowd of Israelites following Him do not see or understand. They are blind and deaf to the truths of God so Jesus explains spiritual things in a simple way using parables.

You have to open up your heart and mind to God so you can understand His ways. This is accomplished by yoking yourself to the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the person of Jesus in the form of a Spirit and He lives in all believers. He will make known to you the truths and insights of God. This is how you become one with God.

The promise from God in the quote cited above is about the person who has accepted Jesus and is yielding to His Spirit residing within Him. This person will be given more by God and will enjoy an abundance of His goodness.

Conversely, the person who rejects Jesus will have everything taken away from him.

You can only learn spiritual truth from the Holy Spirit. The Spirit searches all things and reveals His wisdom to you. He is your teacher and He equips you with the mind of Christ to understand spiritual truths and how to walk with God?

For example, you can read the Bible but without the Holy Spirit you will never understand the significance of God’s Word. You have to compare spiritual to spiritual to see through the eyes of God.

The spiritual man judges all things but can be rightly judged by no one. This is because he is one with God and is yielding to the Spirit of God. He can discern good from evil, make godly decisions, and walk in the path of God.

He lives with God!
