The biggest hindrance to walking with God?

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but it is the way of death. My ways for you are perfect and I will never fail you.”

But My people would not heed My voice,
And Israel would have none of Me.
So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart,
To walk in their own counsels.” Psalm 81:11-12

The biggest hindrance to walking with God is a recalcitrant spirit. This is an inner attitude that refuses to recognize the authority and discipline of God. It is acting in a stubborn, headstrong, rebellious, or defiant manner. It is an attitude that “I am in charge and I know what is best for me”.

Most Christians find it relatively easy to make a decision for Jesus. They see the benefit of eternal life and the wonderful qualities of God but they tend to stop there. Or, they let God into a little bit of their life.

They tend to define the parameters that God is allowed to dwell in their life. Prayer, church, and a small group are usually acceptable but abandonment to God goes way too far. It is out of the comfort zone.

You can’t call yourself a “born again” believer unless you are experiencing a radically different life. You have to be a new creature in Christ Jesus and living a life where old things have faded away and all things have become new. You have a new perspective on life and see things from a spiritual point of view. You think and act differently!

You have a heart attitude to live for God and a willingness to be obedient to His calling in your life.

God chose you before you were born and you belong to Him. And, you had nothing to do with this decision.

You have no right of ownership in this relationship. God leads and you follow. This is the only way you will experience the reality of the Living God and the fullness of His life.

Thought for the day:

“Come to Me and I will give you insight on how you express a recalcitrant spirit towards My will. If you let go of these attitudes, you will experience a new freedom and live with a fullness of My love, joy, and peace.”
