“Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
This message is dealing with prophesy which is the omniscient voice of God speaking through human beings. The Bible clearly instructs you to listen to prophesy and not discredit the voice of God.
There are thousands of prophesies in the Old Testament all of which came into fruition including the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And, prophesy did not stop in the Old Testament. It is alive today in believers all over the world.

When you hear the voice of God spoken directly to you or through another person, I would encourage you listen and respect the words spoken. If you have any doubts submit the prophesy before the Holy Spirit and ask Him to discern truth from any error.
Many times God speaks prophesy but you cannot understand the significance or how it applies to your life. God will give you fragments of your future but they do not fit into a complete picture. You have to wait on God until He reveals the entire story.
Keep in mind prophesy is incomplete and will not be perfect. It is designed to give you a glimpse of the future. Prophesy spoken through a human being reflects the personality, education, and spiritual maturity of the speaker. It is edifying but not always perfect.
It is very important to mesh prophesy with the Word of God. The Word of God is perfect and will never change and prophesy has to conform to the Word.
The best advice is to listen to prophesy, submit it before the Holy Spirit, and then file it away as a memoir from God. Most prophesy is not met to be acted on immediately and if God wants you to take action He will make it very clear.
There is also a difference between prophesy and the wisdom of God. The wisdom of God is supplied by the Holy Spirit to all believers for protection, guidance and correction and should be accepted and implemented into your life. Remember, you have the mind of Christ and He desires to fill you with His thoughts.
Prophesy is a spiritual gift from the Holy Spirit and should be cherished by all. My life is filled every day with the richness of the prophetic voice of God and it is almost always immersed with the Word of God. I have learned to listen, ask for interpretation if necessary, and then file it away as a precious memoir from God.
Walk towards the Living God and ask for His prophetic voice to speak to you and through you and draw you into oneness with the Son of God!
