“When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered around Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make gods for us, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt.” Exodus 32:1
Why do believers turn away from our awesome God and worship false gods or idols? There are several reasons:
They are unhappy with the delays of God.
They feel unrest and stranded.
They complain about the failure of God to help them.
They dislike the circumstances of their life and turn to false gods for help.
There was a group of dissident Israelites who talked Aaron into helping them find a god who would save them.
They made a golden calf and worshipped the false god. They celebrated this event with a spirit of revelry.
This blasphemy made God very angry and the participants involved in building the golden calf were all killed on the orders of Moses and God punished the Israelites with a plague.
The point of this story is you cannot get away with turning to false gods. You will be punished by God.
The jealousy of God is like a consuming fire. He wants all of you and is unwilling to share you with false gods or idols.
I abhor your dissipation!
We all have secret sins and fall short of the glory of God. If you think you are righteous or without sin you are lying to God.
This is a time to go before God and confess your sins and get rid of your false idols. Ask God what must go away in your life. Many times this relates to an attitude or impure motive.
Shortcuts never work with God. You have to wait upon the Lord and worship Him in Spirit and Truth.

I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.
