“Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:20-21
I was given the gift of prophecy by God over forty five years ago. I hear the prophetic voice of God consistently and have learned not to take action but to file the words away for the future. The prophesy is usually confirmed by my wife or another believer.
The gift of prophesy is to speak the words of God about the future of a believer or teach Biblical insights relating to life.
The Bible is composed of one third of prophetic truth and can be trusted unequivocally without question or compromise.
The source of prophesy is the Holy Spirit dwelling in a believer.
Prophesy is for edification and uplifting believers in the Body of Christ. Sometimes the prophesy is impossible to understand so the believer must wait on God to define the meaning. The human mind cannot think like God; we need the mind of Christ.
Prophesy is not a call to action but a warning or future prediction. The prophesy can be about worldly events or future disasters.
Prophesy should not be acted upon without confirmation within the Body of Christ.
We are not to despise prophesy but to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ Jesus. There are many counterfeit spirits at work spreading lies to deceive believers.
Prophesy has damaged many believers because they have acted on the words of Jesus spoken to them and then found out they were false.
The warning is test every prophesy with the Holy Spirit and value the truth and discard the deceit.
