“Not my will but Yours be done.” Luke 22:42
Jesus was very firm, unwavering and determined to complete His mission for God. He has the same desire for you.
This attitude is very reflective in dealing with His people. Jesus has a goal for a believer to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteous and all the other things will be added.
He is very passionate about this goal and will get your attention when you are off course. Jesus can make your life miserable to change your ingrained habits and self motivation.
I learned this lesson about submission to God while playing golf. My focus was on playing well and I invested a lot of time into the game and became a good player. God turned my golfing into a nightmare and I finally gave up.
Jonah decided he would not obey Jesus and spent three days in a whale drifting in the ocean.
The Christ follower must seek the perfect will of Jesus above all else. This is simply committing your works each day to God and seeking the counsel of Jesus.
It is impossible to stay grounded in Jesus without the Holy Spirit. He is the life of Jesus and desires to guide your footsteps and protect you. He speaks to believers and is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your pathway.
This happens when you inquire of the Lord in all of your decision making and avoid hasty or compulsive decisions. They will usually backfire as God punishes a believer for avoiding His wisdom and direction.
Jesus wants the best for you and this will happen through prayer, reading the Bible and listening for His voice.
We all have a human nature to live for self. We are ego driven people and this has to be broken by Jesus.
The goal of Jesus is to transform a believer into His character and at times this can be a very miserable experience filled with troubles until we see the light and turn from rebellion to submission.
